CRP Directory

Clinical Research Practitioners (CRPs) are crucial to delivering clinical research that is transforming treatment in the NHS and the care we receive. CRPs bring a wealth of research knowledge and expertise to research delivery teams, working alongside nurses and others to deliver safe, ethical and high quality clinical research care.

Raising the profile of Clinical Research Practitioners

The Clinical Research Practitioner Directory is an exciting new venture that aims to promote a strong professional identity for CRPs and establish a registered profession for this group of research delivery professionals.

The Directory is a collaboration between the NIHR and the Academy for Healthcare Science. It’s a space for CRPs to be consulted and to contribute to an application seeking an accredited register for CRPs. Joining the Directory serves as the first step in preparing to apply for registration.

CRPs: a family of roles in research delivery

We are using the term Clinical Research Practitioner as an umbrella title for a family of roles in research delivery that have a patient-facing element and where the post holder isn’t currently registered to a healthcare profession. Clinical Research Practitioner includes job titles such as Clinical Studies Officer, Research Practitioner, Clinical Trials Practitioner, Clinical Trials Officer and many others.

The road to recognition

Watch clinical research practitioners talk about their roles, their anticipation of an accredited register and how it will support their professional identity.
